The Port

Port Havenholde is a small harbor town nestled firmly at the edge of a new continent, discovered a mere ten years ago. Most of the original settlers still live in Port Havenholde, although many died when they tried to explore further inland. Port Havenholde was built atop the ruins of what might have once been a great harbor, now a foundation of ruins for the port. Port Havenholde has grown slowly, but surely. Ships bring in supplies and leave with goods produced by the town. But, that's boring stuff for magistrates and merchants. Port Havenholde survives, but expansion into the wilds is an insurmountable task at the moment and all attention is made to keep Port Havenholde protected and thriving.

Population: There are nearly 400 people at any one time in Port Havenholde. Most of them are sailors and merchants that will return to the Old World after several weeks of trading and unloading cargo. There are roughly 250 regular citizens that inhabit Port Havenholde - mostly humans and halflings. Generally, any other race is a traveler or adventurer of some sort.

Government: A human noble, Duke Keodin Artanis is the Lord Warden of the town. He is in charge of the town's justice, defense, and laws. The Lord Warden appoints a town council to look after routine commerce and public projects. Crime is near non-existent inside the town - people are generally fearful of the ultimate punishment: exile.

Defenses: The Havenholde Watch numbers roughly sixty stout warriors. The Grey Keep is their barracks. The Lord Warden can call all citizens to the town's defense if needed and a stockade, plentiful in arms and armor, is available to the unequipped in the event of an emergency. The Watch is dedicated to the defense of the city and most never see the wilds beyond.

Inns: There is one inn and tavern in the town. It is named The Admiral's Rest and it is run by a jolly fellow simply referred to as Admiral. This is the place where most adventurers gather before and after any expeditions out into the wilderness. The ale, food and bedding is plentiful and there's always room for one more.

Shops: There are a few places to purchase supplies and equipment for adventurers. Mundane goods can be puchased at the Havenholde Trading House. Mundane weapons and armor can be bought at Leomer's Ironworks. Ingrid's Fine Mystical Trinkets sells alchemical/ritual components. There is a 40% markup on all goods (not including ritual and alchemical components) sold in Port Havenholde due to the long journey across the Shattered Sea. The recently built Bit n' Bridle stables have opened for business and sell mounts of various kinds. A small hole in the wall shop at the harbor near the docks has also opened up recently - called the Starboard Parlor, a tattooed man named Sam can craft magical tattoos for a price (these tattoos, unlike most items in Port Havenholde, cost the list price forgoing the 40% markup).

Temples: There is only one temple (and it's relatively small at that) inside Port Havenholde. It is called the Temple of Avandra. There is a small shrine near the city gates dedicated to Erathis and it is customary for adventurers to kiss the hilt of Lady Erathis' blade before leaving the city walls.
